Harness Technology to meet the government’s demands on your Hub
Music Technology has been given a prominent place in the National Plan for Music (NPM), with a recognition that it has been underused in supporting music making in the past. But how can a Hub maximise the impact of music technology to ensure delivery of the NPM Vision and Core and Extension Roles?
Meeting the Vision and Roles of a Music Education Hub with technology
Deliver the Vision
When used alongside and in addition to traditional models of delivery Gigajam can help Hubs deliver the vision stated in the NPM.
“Our vision is to enable children from all backgrounds and every part of England to have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument; to make music with others; to learn to sing; and to have the opportunity to progress to the next level of excellence….”
Deliver Core Roles
Gigajam can also support the delivery of three of the Core Roles that will be demanded of Hubs:
a) Ensure that every child aged 5-18 has the opportunity to learn a musical instrument through whole class ensemble teaching programmes for ideally a year (but for a minimum of a term) of weekly tuition on the same instrument.
b) Provide opportunities to play in ensembles and to perform from an early stage.
c) Ensure that clear progression routes are available and affordable to people.
Deliver Extension Role
Gigajam can also be used to support the following Hub Extension Role:
a) Offer CPD to school staff, particularly in supporting schools to deliver music in the curriculum.
Maximise the impact of your bid with Gigajam
Gigajam’s unique use of interactive music technology will help hubs demonstrate how they plan to increase the scale and reach of their services through technology and provide access to all schools and all children at school and at home.
By partnering with Gigajam hubs can immediately increase their reach into secondary schools and offer every child in your area the chance to learn to play for free, significantly increasing the breadth of your services to schools. Gigajam also helps increase the demand for instrumental tuition from Music Services making us the perfect complement.
How will Gigajam boost my Music Hub bid?
Hubs will be able to show that they can achieve the following:
- Increase reach into schools, in particular secondary schools, to support the delivery of music, technology and the creative curriculum at KS3 & 4
- Bridge from Wider Opportunities into an offer for all pupils that is sustainable and can take learners to a standard equivalent to Grade 5
- Increase the demand in numbers of pupils choosing to learn an instrument with Music Service teachers
- Give every child, irrespective of their needs or background, the chance to learn a musical instrument in class and online for free
- Provision to all schools of an online resource that is affordable and sustainable which uses interactive technology to help hubs support teachers deliver more instrumental lessons than previously possible.
How does Gigajam work?
Gigajam provides high quality instrumental learning in guitar, bass, keyboard and drums. It uses the internet so that pupils can interact live with digital technology in the classroom, and then carry on learning outside the classroom and in their homes.
Pupils constantly assess their progress as they learn. Teachers can immediately see how they are doing and feedback. Measuring attainment is quick and effective. Pupils can learn to perform individually, in groups and in bands from Day 1. Pupils can also develop and use their skills to engage more deeply in all aspects of the curriculum and in other music making activities.
How much will it cost us?
We have designed a flexible model that takes account of future funding and enables hubs to budget for funding reductions: for just 1.5% of a hub’s music allocation we can offer Gigajam free to all schools in a Music Hub area.
